The Garden of Neuro’s micro poetry challenge called for poems on the theme memory is all around us, as well as within. The challenge was facilitated by Nolcha Fox.

The “wise ancient scribe” in my poem is Marcus Aurelius.

A micro-poem is 10 lines, not counting the title or blank lines.

Memory Mirages

Her round, rosy-cheeked child
would clench chubby fists over her eyes
and think cutely, ‘No one can see me!’
Memories from within and without come,
miraging her tot, now in a temper tantrum,
refusing to breathe till she got her way.
A wise ancient scribe used to say:
‘You can hold your breath until you’re blue,
But they’ll still go on doing it.’
Innocent children don’t read the classics.
